James Robert Hamlett

James Robert Hamlett, born in Leasburg, NC in 1931 to Elizabeth and Alex Hamlett, a resident of Kernersville NC since 1963, and passed away on February 12, 2026, at the age of 94 after a long, beautiful life.

James, known by many as Jim, is survived by his loving wife Peggy Hamlett of 73 years, son Charles Anthony “Tony” Hamlett and two granddaughters Ashley Kirby and Amanda Robinson of Texas. Also survived is one brother Berkley Hamlett of Burlington NC.

Jim is Navy Veteran who served aboard the USS Inchon in 1952. Jim retired from Roadway in 1991 where he was a long-haul driver for 32 years, driving 4 million miles without an accident.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, 10 of his 11 siblings, two of his sons James Robert “Bobby” Hamlett Jr and Gary Keith Hamlett, along with one grandson Kyler Anderson Kirby.

Jim was loved and cherished by all who knew him and were blessed to experience his caring spirit and listening to his many jokes. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and neighbors. Jim accepted the one and only Lord Jesus Christ many years ago and is now walking the streets of glory, Amen.

A funeral service will be held 11:00am Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with family and friends sharing memories. Burial will follow at 2:30pm in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Danville, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45am prior to the service at the funeral home.
