Dr. Michele Sharkey, DVM Obituary

Beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and devoted fur-mom, Michele Sharkey, left us too soon and unexpectedly on July 30, 2024, in Littleton, Colorado.

Michele was born alongside her twin, Grace, in Lansing, Michigan, on April 8, 1990, to Michael and Tina (Lenneman) Sharkey.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Mary Perkins; grandparents, Francis and Helen (Gryble) Sharkey and Eugene and Jeanette (Perkins) Lenneman; multiple great-aunts and great-uncles; uncles William Sharkey and David Hudson; and cousin Brandon Sharkey. Michele recently lost Roxy, her eldest kitty. She is survived by her parents; sister, Grace Sharkey; brother, Joseph Sharkey; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and great-aunts, Rita Perkins and Connie Lenneman; and her beloved boyfriend, Dillon Glover. Most importantly, she is survived by her kitties, Arya, Cardi, and Cow, who will be coming to live with their Michigan family.

Michele graduated from DeWitt High School in 2008. After attending Aquinas College for two years, she transferred to Loyola University in Chicago, where she earned a BA in Biology in 2013. Michele received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. Her first professional job was at Pol Veterinary Services in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She also worked briefly in Missouri, but in 2021, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian near her beloved Rocky Mountains.

Michele loved all things science-related. Hiking in the mountains, looking for her favorite animal, the moose, was one of her favorite activities. She loved animals from the moment she was born and was determined to become a vet to improve animal health. Michele was athletic and was a cheerleader at both DeWitt High School and Aquinas College. She was also a member of DeWitt High School’s state championship golf team in 2007. Her newest passions were snorkeling, diamond art, painting, and ghost hunting. "Shell Bell," a family nickname, also loved The Wizard of Oz and had over 500 collectibles. Michele belonged to the BeyHive and was one of Beyoncé’s most devoted fans.

Michele will be missed more than mere words can express, but we know that her spirit is with God and her angelic family members who preceded her. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Michele’s name can be made to Foothills Animal Shelter, 580 McIntyre Street, Golden, CO 80401.
