December 12, 1945 - April 17, 2023

On April 17, 2023, Dr. Ram R. Krishna passed away peacefully at the age of 77 after having lived an extraordinary life of service. Dr. Krishna earned his medical degree in India and completed his residency in general surgery and orthopedics at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident of Orthopedics.

Dr. Krishna went on to a long, distinguished career as an orthopedic surgeon in private practice in Yuma, Arizona. In addition to his thriving practice, Dr. Krishna spent his life devoted to leadership and community service. He served as Chief of Staff for the South East Arizona Medical Center, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the South East Arizona Medical Center, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Yuma Regional Medical Center, Chair of Surgery at Yuma Regional Medical Center, President of the Yuma County Medical Society, President of the Arizona Medical Board, President of the Karnataka State Medical and Dental Alumni Association, Executive Committee Member of the Arizona Orthopedic Society, Director of the Federation of State Medical Boards, Chairman of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, and was appointed as a Regent on the Arizona Board of Regents overseeing Arizona's three public universities. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Arizona Asian American Association and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Arizona Medical Association.

Dr. Krishna is survived by his wonderful wife Meera, and his proudest achievements, his daughters: Sunita, a superior court judge, and Rupa, a family practice physician. He is also survived by his loving sons-in-law Manuel, an attorney, and Jason, an interventional radiologist, who he treated like his own sons, and three beautiful grandchildren who he adored. He will be forever missed by his family and numerous friends and colleagues. I worked as a nurse in the 70's. He was a very kind and caring doctor. He also helped my family my Mom and my son with knee injuries. He was very giving to travel back to India on several occasions to help others in his clinics. He will be sorely missed! May the Lord comfort his family.

Ram came to Yuma shortly after I did and I had the great pleasure of being his friend and colleague. He was an outstanding physician upon who´s judgment I could always rely and a great addition to the Yuma medical community. I also admired his volunteerism and his substantial contributions to our city, state, and medical society. Well done my friend!

Dr. Krishna will be remembered and cherished for a very long time. Not only was he a wonderful doctor but a very kind and patient man. He had a cute sense of humor when my husband had his knee surgeries and his gentle nature was such a blessing. My sincere condolences to his beautiful family and friends.

Ram was a gentleman... I served with him on the Board of Regents where his intellect, compassion and leadership made such a positive difference. I feel honored to be able to call him a friend. Working with him was always a joy, even on the toughest of issues, because he always saw the good in others... and focused on the best result. My wife Judy and I give our sincere condolences to Meera and the family.

To Dr. Krishna's family and friends and his office staff in the Yuma office. I was so sad to see in the paper that he had died. I was his pt. since 2002 and a total knee in 2013. I was so sorry not to have a chance to say goodbye when he left Yuma in 2019. He was a wonderful doctor and a very nice person so sweet. He was always updating me on his missions. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He let me know the updates on his daughters and he always smiled when he spoke of them. He was so proud. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Meera and family, I´m saddened to hear of Ram´s passing. Ram was such a wonderful person who provided both compassion and humor in any given situation. He was my doctor for many years and always quickly attended to my needs with a simple call. He was a kind and caring man who will be sorely missed.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
