Dragina Dottie Barbu

Dragina “Dottie” Caba Barbu, 94, of Altoona, formerly of Harrisburg passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018. Born on September 29, 1923 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John Sr and Arselia Caba. Dottie was a kind loving woman and mother. She worked for Bell Telephone Company as an Operator for 36 years before retiring. In her spare time, she loved to knit. So much so that she would knit about 20 small hats a month, just to donate them to the local hospitals for the new born babies. She was very involved in all church activities, but she took the most pride in being an instrumental part in the nut roll sales. She was also involved in various other clubs and organizations in her community, such as, Christ the Savior Orthodox Church and its Altar Guild, Belle Tele Pioneers, Telephone Chit Chat Club, and St Margaret Mary Golden Years Club. When Dottie wasn’t busy at one of her clubs or knitting hats she enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, baking and she was a wiz at the Wheel of Fortune. Often times filling in the missing letters after just two or three letters had been revealed. She is survived by her daughter Sylvia (Joe) Geissinger and her two grand children Leah and Joseph Geissinger. Along with her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her loving husband Sylvester “Bones” Barbu and her two brothers George and John Caba jr. A viewing will be held at the Christ The Savior Orthodox Church, 5501 Old Locust Ln, Harrisburg, PA 17109, on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10:00-11:00AM. A funeral mass will begin at 11:00AM with Reverend Steven Vernak conducting the service. Burial will take place immediately following at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, PA. Services have been entrusted to Neumyer Funeral Home.
