Drew Herbert "D.H." Bell

We are heartbroken to share that Drew Herbert Bell Sr., best known as D.H., a beloved husband, skilled master carpenter, and passionate bluegrass music enthusiast, passed away at the age of 84 on March 28, 2026. Born on August 6, 1941, in Mayo, FL, to Howell and Gladys Bell. D.H. lived a life fueled by creativity, adventure, and a deep love for his family and friends.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and spent his early years working as a cowboy in the Florida flatwoods and bays. Those experiences shaped him into the dedicated man we all knew and loved. He spent many years as a master carpenter in the construction industry, crafting beautiful spaces with his hands and showcasing his remarkable talent.
Outside of work, he found joy in building stringed instruments, including banjos, guitars, mandolins, and many others, often sharing his passion for bluegrass music with those around him. His warmth and laughter filled the room, whether he was strumming a tune or telling stories of his outdoor adventures. An avid hunter and fisherman, D.H. also enjoyed the thrill of racing cars and had a knack for hunting arrowheads, always fascinated by the wonders of archaeology. He was also an avid reader of many subjects.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 62 years, Dianne Hallan Bell, who shared many wonderful memories with him; 4 children, Drew Bell Jr., and wife Suzette, Marie Bell, David Bell, and Denise Bell, all of Mayo; 4 grandchildren, Dustin Bell, Zach McCray, Ashley Howell, and Paige Brownfield; 15 great-grandchildren, 5 siblings, Charles Bell, and wife Evelyn, Linda Bell, Walter Bell, and wife Sallie, Inez Smith, and husband Steve, and James Bell, and wife Karen; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. D.H. had a way of making life feel richer, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on April 2, 2026, at Brewer Lake Baptist Church with Rev. Damien Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Day Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Friends and family are invited to join us as we celebrate D.H.'s life, sharing stories and laughter in his memory. Arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.
