Drew D. Dougherty, 57, of Effingham, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, surrounded by his family and friends, after a valiant fight with cancer.

Drew was born on March 15, 1968, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, to Darwin and Lue (Rentschler) Dougherty. He grew up in Effingham and graduated with the St. Anthony High School class of 1986. His career took him to Cleveland, where he spent many years working as an IT specialist at Sherwin-Williams' world headquarters, a position that allowed him to travel the world. Drew's path brought him back to Effingham where he reconnected with the people and community he loved most.

Drew had a lasting impact on everyone who knew him, and will be remembered for his loyalty, compassion, and joyful spirit. His presence lit up any room, and he always brought a smile to the faces around him. He was fiercely dedicated to his family and friends, never hesitated to drop everything to help someone in need, and made a point to celebrate the accomplishments of others, no matter how big or small. Intelligent and curious, he found joy in woodworking, puzzles, and cheering on the Fighting Illini. Many a friend has received a beautiful handmade wooden box from Drew. He had a genuine way of taking an interest in everyone's life, no matter how near or far, and always showed up for those he loved. His dog, Loki, was a constant companion, and together they brought even more warmth to those around them. His compassion, smile, and love will be missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to know him.

Drew was preceded in death by his parents. Drew is survived by, and will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Darin, and Darin's wife, Christina, along with his cherished niece and nephew, Emma and Will, all of Wellesley, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. A private graveside service will be held, with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery.

The family thanks the professionals at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, and specifically the staff on the 4th floor, for their dedication and thoughtful, loving care for Drew. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Drew's deep love for animals and live music, memorial contributions may be made to EARS (Effingham Animal Rescue and Sanctuary),or Poss Music Works.
