Drew Matthew Peterson, 22, of Worden, Illinois, formerly of Edwardsville, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Jasper County, Iowa.

He was born on March 3, 2003, in Maryville, Illinois, to Tim and Sylvia (née Ginter) Peterson. Drew graduated from Edwardsville High School, Class of 2021, and went on to pursue his passion for hands-on work. He proudly graduated in August of 2022 from Southeast Lineman Training Center (SLTC) in Trenton, Georgia.

Drew lived life fully and generously. He enjoyed boating on the lake at Holiday Shores, attending concerts, and cheering on his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles. He loved throwing darts and was a member of a dart league.

Known for his big heart, Drew loved making people happy and was always a helper and a doer. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his girlfriend, family and friends. His spirit will live on in the hearts he loved and who loved him back.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Paul Ginter, Alan Johnson, and Larry Peterson.

Drew is survived by his parents, Tim and Sylvia Peterson; his brother, Doug (Jay) Peterson; his nephew, Oliver Peterson; his grandmothers, Barbara Peterson and Sylvia Johnson; his girlfriend, Gracie Burroughs; Gracie's parents, Mike and Pam Burroughs; and Gracie's sisters, Abi and Genny Burroughs.

He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, David and Kimberly Peterson, Patrick Peterson and Tracy Kohlmiller, Darin and Kylee Peterson, Paul Ginter Jr., Kim Johnson, Ricky and Paulette George. His cousins, Erik and Sammy Peterson with their children, Brayden and Owen, Mallery Peterson and Alec Peterson, Karyssa, Colin and Macie Peterson, Caiti and Brad Boyer with their children, Myla and Bradley, Becca Ginter and her son, Leif, Amy Ginter, Zoe and Alex Johnson, Cody and Kirsten George, and Peyton George, and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, Illinois. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Kody Stewart. Burial will take place at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, Illinois.

A Celebration of Life will be held starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Edwardsville Moose Lodge, 7371 Marine Road, Edwardsville, IL 62025.

A scholarship fund will be set up in Drew's honor to be gifted to a student wanting to continue their education in the trade field. Checks should be made payable to Tim Peterson and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.

Words cannot express what you and your family are going through right now. Drew was a nice and caring man, I remember when he dog sat for me a few times. My deepest sympathies to Sylvia and Tim and Grandma Sylvia and the rest of his family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love and hugs.
