Duane Carl Carlsrud

Duane C. Carlsrud of Bloomington, Minnesota, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025. Duane went home to be with his Lord and Savior at age 76. He was born in Breckenridge, MN, on October 28, 1948, to Ernest Carlsrud and Ruth (Ernst) Carlsrud. He was the first-born child and grew up in Rothsay, Minnesota, farming with his family. He excelled at everything he did from high school athletics to the Navy, where he was Sailor of the Year, and multiple times employee of the year. Duane married the love of his life, Karol (Magnusson) Carlsrud, on December 21, 1969. That same year, he enlisted in the Navy, and they moved to Norfolk, Virginia. In September 1972, they welcomed their firstborn, Nathan Jay. They returned to Rothsay in 1973. In July 1976, they welcomed their daughter Anna Patricia. The family moved to Bloomington, MN, in 1978 where they made their home. Their family grew with the addition of his daughter-in-law, son-in-law, his grandchildren, their spouses, and his great-grandson. Duane went on to be an electronics technician for the remainder of his career. He was also an active church member who led Bible Studies, chaperoned youth trips, and mentored many. He shared his love of athletics with his children by coaching all their sports teams. He was an exceptional woodworker, an extraordinary cookie maker, a basketball player, a golfer, and a softball player. He loved camping with his family and going to Mexico with his wife. He absolutely adored and spoiled his three granddaughters and welcomed his bonus grandsons with open arms. Preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Stephen Magnusson, brothers-in-law Larry Dorn and Dana Nelson, and nephew Dustin Dorn. Survived by his wife of 55 years, his son and daughter-in-law Stacy (Duffy) Carlsrud, and his daughter and son-in-law Scott Manders. His cherished granddaughters, Maggie (Mike) Orte, Molly (Jordan) Manley, and Chloe Cantlon. His bonus grandsons Mark and Alex Manders. His great-grandson Aiden Duane Orte. His siblings Patrica Nelson, Nancy Dorn, Vicki (Greg) Bauman, and Bruce Carlsrud. His mother-in-law, Betty Magnusson. His sisters-in-law Stephanie (Allen) Aaberg and Cheri (John) McLaughlin. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
