Duane Dykhouse Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home on Jan. 20, 2026.
Tustin, Michigan - Duane A. Dykhouse Jr., of Tustin passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. He was 52.

He was born on September 2, 1973, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Duane and Carol (Huffman) Dykhouse.

November 16, 1996 was a day that changed everything. It was the day Duane met the love of his life, Amy, and began a journey that would be filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering support for his family. Duane was a rock, a partner, and a constant presence whose loss is felt beyond words. Duane was his sons, Garrett and Grant's, biggest supporter and proudest fan. He cherished watching them grow into the remarkable men they are today and looked forward to celebrating their futures-marriages, children, and all the milestones life would bring. He often dreamed that one day they would start their own business so he could retire and work for them, likely with the added bonus of pushing their buttons and keeping life interesting.

Anyone who knew Duane knew he could never sit still. Saturdays often began with a simple greeting and quickly turned into an adventure, usually starting with, "Get ready, we're going for a ride." Those spontaneous "drive-abouts" might lead to the Mackinaw Bridge, Frankenmuth, or Grand Rapids. Though the boys didn't always appreciate those long drives as children, they've since carried on the tradition themselves.

Duane loved to travel. Whether it was a trip with his wife, a family vacation, or an adventure with close friends, he planned each journey with care and excitement. He researched destinations, mapped out stops along the way, and never missed an opportunity to explore a unique grocery store or hidden gem.

Duane also loved to cook and found joy in feeding others. Whether at home or camping with friends, he took pride in making sure everyone was well fed. Even when reminded that others could help, he rarely stepped back-his heart was in every meal he made.

Duane lived life fully, loved deeply, and gave endlessly. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, adventure, and devotion that will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Duane is survived by his loving wife, Amy (Swiler) Dykhouse; his sons, Garrett Dykhouse and Grant Dykhouse; his mother, Carol Dykhouse; his brother, Kevin (Natalie Hopkins) Dykhouse; his sister, Catherine Dykhouse; his in-laws, Dan and Cindie Swiler; his brother-in-law, Adam (Laura) Swiler; and nieces and nephews, Calli Dykhouse, Jaida Dykhouse, Gracyn Swiler and Easton Swiler.

He was preceded in death by his father, Duane A. Dykhouse Sr., and his mother-in-law, Loretta Swiler.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home, Cadillac, MI. Public visitation will begin at noon and the Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM, followed by a luncheon at Burkes Waterfront in Cadillac. Pastor Bart Glupker will be officiating.
