Duane Carroll Eberling

Duane Carroll Eberling (nee Meko), age 83 of Hudson, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025. She was the beloved wife of John Edward Eberling, loving mother of Paul Eberling, and cherished daughter of the late Walter Joseph and Sophie Constance (nee Jastrzembski) Meko.
Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, on October 3, 1941, Duane faced early health challenges that only strengthened her remarkable spirit. Despite a mild case of cerebral palsy, she embraced life with enthusiasm for learning and dedication to helping others.
A bright and accomplished student, Duane excelled academically in high school, tutoring fellow students in Latin, playing clarinet in the band, and volunteering at a local pharmacy. Her commitment to education led her to Ohio Northern University where she became a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She majored in pharmacy, and was among a small number of pioneering women entering this male-dominated profession.
After graduating, Duane built an accomplished career as a hospital pharmacist, earning licenses in Ohio, New York, and Georgia. She served in various roles from staff pharmacist to director of pharmacy at distinguished institutions including the Cleveland Clinic and Buffalo General. Her professional life was marked by skill and compassion, as she generously shared her knowledge with colleagues, patients, family, and friends.
Duane's greatest joy was her family. She treasured her time with her husband, John, and her son, Paul. Her infectious laughter, warm smile, and gentle spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her, offering constant love and support to those around her.
A woman of deep faith, Duane found strength in her Catholic beliefs, actively participating in her faith community. Her unwavering belief and commitment to virtuous living inspired everyone she met.
Duane's legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved. She will be deeply missed by her husband, John, her son, Paul, her extended family, and countless friends whose lives she touched. Her memory will forever be a source of inspiration and love.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Busch-Romito Funeral Home, 19 E. Main St. (on the square), Hudson, OH 44236. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 340 N. Main St., Hudson, OH. All are asked to please meet at church. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park, OH, Saint John Paul Mausoleum, niche #308E.
