Buzz, 'Don't call me Duane', Inderdahl died peacefully on March 12, 2026 in
Pueblo, CO at the age of 75.
Buzz was born July 25, 1950 in
Iola, WI to Selmer and Edythe (Madson) Inderdahl.
He joined the Navy out of high school and spent 10 years at various assignments: on the USS St Paul, a cruiser, during the Vietnam War; Newfoundland, and by far his favorite, Key West, where he learned to love everything Jimmy Buffet.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Buzz spent time back in Wisconsin, Westcliffe, Buffalo and
Gillette, WY and Colorado Springs as a tradesman and carpenter. During his free time, he spent many hours climbing the Sangre de Cristo's, the Big Horn Mountains, Pikes Peak and neighboring Colorado 14'ers.
Returning to Westcliffe and the Sangres was always his dream and when the opportunity arose in 2001, he took it. Buzz spent the next 17 years as a caretaker, carpenter and woodworker while being able to enjoy the outdoor activities provided by the Wet Mountain Valley; hiking, mountain biking, and cross country skiing. He joined Custer County Search and Rescue as a team member and spent several years as Captain. Admittedly, he would tell you he was a better team member than a leader.
Buzz always had a good story to tell whether it be about the Navy, hiking adventures with his buddies, or his times at Lake Winnebago. He had a knack for getting under the skin of some people. But all told, he was a good friend to those who overlooked his sometimes cantankerous and contrarian nature and hung with him.
Buzz had a few medical challenges. In 2015, he had a stroke, followed by a series of seizures, which left him uncomfortable driving. He pedaled around town on his bike and continued to hike as often as he could. In late 2017, Buzz developed peripheral arterial disease and by July of 2018, was recovering from an above the knee leg amputation. He then got around in an electric off road scooter and enjoyed riding out to the Silver Cliff Cemetery. On several occasions, he got stuck and passersby helped him back to terra firma!
He is survived by his brother Danny, his long time pal and cousin-in-law David Hanson (the only person who could call him Duane!), and several nephews. Buzz was preceded in death by his brother David and sister Patsy.
As per his wishes, there will be no service. His ashes, along with his beloved dogs, will be scattered in the Sangres.
His friends want to thank: The Seright Family, Mike & Donna Holt, Willey Quinn, Wilbur Yoder, VALI, CC Senior Center, the VA, Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Rock Canyon Rehab Center for the recent support and over the last few years. Should you wish to make a donation in his honor, please consider the organizations above or Custer County Search and Rescue, Mission: Wolf or Wet Mountain Valley Wildlife Rehabilitation.
