Duane Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller and Miller Funeral Home - Valliant on Dec. 26, 2025.
Duane Kenneth Miller lost his battle with lung cancer and passed from this life into heaven on December 24, 2025, where he was greeted by his first great grandchild. He was born in Mishawaka, Indiana on April 2, 1958; the third of six children born to Kenneth and Mildred (Selner) Miller.

When he was in high school, Duane met the love of his life, Kathryn Sue Short. They married on May 29, 1976 in Idabel, Oklahoma and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this coming May. Duane accepted Christ as his Savior when he was in high school and was affiliated with the Trinity Baptist Church in Valliant, Oklahoma. He had lived in Millerton the last 37 years. Duane, or Pa as he was affectionately called by many, loved vehicles and working on them. He spent many years working as an auto body man and then as a long-haul truck driver with Jimmie Tucker Trucking. Duane never met a Chevy he didn't like. He could be depended on to help whenever his family needed help with vehicle problems and often tried to prevent problems by letting his wife and daughters know when their tires needed changing. Duane continued this by making sure his grandchildren and their friends knew how to change a tire. When his health became worse and he could no longer work, Duane filled his hours with building model cars and amassed quite the collection of at least 100 or more before he passed away. He was a 13-year veteran of the Oklahoma National Guard and also served on the Millerton City Council and the Millerton Water Board. Duane also helped with fostering several pups for ARK of McCurtain County.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Miller. He will continue to be loved by his loving wife, Kathryn of the home, three daughters, Diana of the home, Cyndi and Brian Mooney of Millerton, and Molly\Kimberly and Adam Miller of Wales; grandchildren, Raeli and Nathan Brewer-McGee, Ryan Frunk, and Nicholas Fowler all of Millerton along with adopted grandson, Jerry Wells; family friend, Joe Frunk, and a new great-grandchild on the way. He is survived by his siblings, Debra and Craig Buback, Doris Whitaker, Donna Stovall and Daryl Miller. He is also survived by several in-laws, nieces, and nephews, who all appreciated his sense of humor and knowledge of cars. Last but not least he leaves behind his faithful companion, Calliope and a couple of grandpups who appreciated him for making sure they had plenty of treats.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Animal Rescue and Kare, PO Box 1023, Broken Bow, OK, 74728 or via their Facebook page.
