Ellen Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care - Indianapolis on Mar. 11, 2026.
Ellen "Maxine" Miller, 88, passed away peacefully in Fishers, Indiana, on March 8, 2026. She has joined her beloved husband, Frank "Gordon" Miller, in eternal rest. Maxine was born in Junction City, Kansas, to Eugene and Florence Hindman.

Maxine's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. A devoted mother of seven, she guided the joyful chaos of a large household with grace, patience, and a song on her lips.

In 1968, she and her husband, Gordon, moved to Northwest Indiana, where together they built their home and raised their family. Their life together was rooted in faith, family, and devotion to their children. Valparaiso became the heart of Maxine's life, and she was deeply woven into the community she loved. Much of her time was spent supporting her children through their school years and proudly cheering them on at their many sports and activities.

A dedicated member of Eastlake Baptist Church, she found joy in worship and song. She was a staple of the choir and a soloist who built lifetime of friendships within her congregation. When she wasn't at church or spending time with family, Maxine could often be found dining out with friends, exercising in the pool at the YMCA, reading books, studying the Bible, and dressing to impress-she famously never met a floral print she didn't like.

Maxine spent her life planting seeds of love, faith, and kindness that will continue to bloom for generations to come. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, and a family who will carry her love forward.

She is survived by her children: Chris Miller (Margaret), Scott Miller (Sheri Sakamoto), Mark Miller (Colette Wisniewski), Michelle Miller, and Karin Miller. Her daughter in laws are: Pam Gumns and Dottie Miller. She was preceded in death by her children Kim Winn (Miller) and Mike Miller, and by her son-in-law Jeff Winn.

Her cherished grandchildren are Brittany, Brooke, Becky, Sarah, Jeff, Matt, Zane, Andrew, Dominic, Ella, Bryce, Kiera, Cole, Seth, Parker, and Raven. She also took great pride in her five nieces and ten great-grandchildren.

Maxine is survived by two siblings, Kristi Sherbert and Ross Hindman, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and laughter. She was preceded in death by her brothers Jack Hindman and Craig Hindman.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a future time at Calumet Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eastlake Baptist Church in Crown Point, Indiana.
