Warren Funeral Home, Cemetery & MausoleumDuane Howard Painter, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on December 25, 2025, his birthday, surrounded by the love of his family.
Duane was born and raised in Tiffin, Ohio, the eldest of four children born to Howard and Helen Painter. His small-town upbringing shaped the man he became and never left him. He was a steady presence, deeply rooted in family, kindness, and simple joys. Duane is survived by his sisters, Helen Ann Hixon and Rosanne Painter, both living in Florida. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Howard Painter, who was killed in the Vietnam War — a loss Duane carried with quiet honor and remembrance throughout his life.
Duane shared 63 years of marriage with the love of his life, Nanjean Painter—a partnership rooted in devotion, laughter, and an unwavering commitment. He was a proud father to two daughters: Pamela Perrin, married to Timothy Brett Perrin, and Joelle Venzera, married to Larry Venzera.
Duane’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted grandfather to Lauren Salazar, Kyle Maguire, Ryan Maguire (married to Mary Maguire), Mikala Maguire, Grant Goode, Julia Goode, and Catherine Goode. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Caitlyn, Anthony, Pamella, Dennis, Monika, and Cameron, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Professionally, Duane spent many years as a Regional Service Manager for Xerox. After retirement, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start Family Vending, a business that truly lived up to its name. Many of his grandchildren helped along the way — filling machines, collecting change, and learning firsthand the value of hard work, responsibility, and time spent together.
Duane lived life with intention and appreciation. He found beauty in sunsets, joy in laughter shared with friends, and peace in nature. He never met a dog he didn’t like — often carrying a pocket full of dog treats just in case. Each morning began with breakfast alongside his beloved cat, LB, and his wife by his side.
He was a constant presence at his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events, choral concerts, and every milestone that mattered. Wherever his family was, Duane was there. His commitment to showing up never wavered.
Duane’s heart always reflected the values of his hometown roots — humility, kindness, and genuine care for others. He lived quietly, loved deeply, and left an enduring legacy through the family he treasured so completely.
Services will be held at Grace Community Church, 1001 E. Grand Avenue, in Lake Villa on Tuesday, January 13, 2025. We will gather at 10AM and the service will begin at 11AM.
Duane Howard Painter will be remembered for his steadfast love, gentle strength, and the way he made everyone around him feel seen, valued, and loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Duane's name to Grace Community Church, 1001 E. Grand Avenue, Lake Villa, IL 60046 would be appreciated.
