Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jelacic Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Jan. 29, 2026.
Duane M Rick was born on July 8, 1947, and born to eternal life on January 25, 2026. Duane was the oldest child of Marvin and Stefania Rick, brother to Darlene (Leroy) Schultz, Marvin Rick, and Beverly (Tim) Harstad. Survived by his wife of 52 years Catherine and his sons, Joseph (Vicki) Rick and Kevin (Tanya) Rick. Loving grandfather to Michelle, Joslynn, Mason, Jesse-James, Austin and Anthony; Great-grandfather to Miro and Jaxx. Duane was also a treasured brother-in-law and uncle. Preceded in death by many wonderful, loving family members and friends, his parents and his best friends Jeff Wickman and Tommy Zylka.
Duane grew up in Milwaukee, graduated in 1966 from Boys Tech High School in technical auto mechanics and was immediately offered an opportunity at the Falk Corporation. He spent his entire career growing, learning and becoming a vital part of the company, ending his career as a traveling field service troubleshooter. He traveled all over the world diagnosing and maintaining enormous gearboxes and was relied on for his vast knowledge in his field. He went back to school at the age of 54 to earn his associates degree, just so that he could say he did it! Duane wrote his final paper, "Janosik, the Slovak Robin Hood', demonstrating his incredible pride in his Slovakian heritage. In the 1967 he was drafted into the service to spend 2 years in the Army. He drove the personal transport carrier. Duane regarded his time in the military with great pride throughout his life. He always said, "I was in the Army, I can eat anything and sleep anywhere."
Being an avid outdoorsman, he shared his love of nature with his sons and grandchildren, friends and many other youths through his involvement in the Boy Scouts Explorers groups. He loved to cook outdoors, over an open fire and loved even more to sample good cooking. Duane had an intricate mind. He worked Sudoku puzzles, was an intense reader, a history buff, and collector of all the useless things for which he could find a new purpose. Stubborn and headstrong but a steadfast, loving and faithful man, with always a one-liner joke to share. He took great care of his family, and his last words were for his beloved Cathy to be taken care of.
Visitation will be held for Duane on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 12:30pm until the time of services at 2:00pm, all at Wisconsin Memorial Park - Chapel of the Chimes, 13235 West capitol Drive,
Brookfield, Wisconsin 53005. Military honors will follow the service, prior to his entombment.
