Dudley White Obituary
Dudley Alwyn White, age 83, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Dudley was the cherished husband for 55 years of the late Delrose D. (nee Crawford), who sadly passed away just over a week before him.
He was a devoted father to William (deceased), Richard (Nichole), and Jennifer White; and beloved grandfather of Joselyn, Zuri and Ezekiel.
Dudley was a loving brother to 12 siblings and is survived by four sisters, Rosena McDonald, Olga Jebbison, Deloris Nelson, Zenodia Jebbison and Cynthia Gartlett and three of his brothers, Leroy Jebbison, Nehemiah Jebbison and Pinto Jebbison. He was also a treasured uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
He leaves behind many friends and relatives, as well as his "adopted family" including the Benn, Richards and Williams families!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winston Dudley White and Evelyn (nee Jebbison) Chambers; and five of his brothers, Rodclif White, Hughburt White, Robert Jebbison, Bernel Jebbison and Asmond Jebbison.
Dudley was born on November 3, 1942 in Knockpatrick, Manchester, Jamaica, and worked there as a gardener. He married his beloved Delrose in 1970 and moved with her to the United States in 1972. He had the "strength of ten oxen", and despite an improperly healed leg injury that caused a permanent limp, and other medical issues over the years, he always persevered, never allowing them to slow him down or miss a minute of work.
He put his unparalleled work ethic to use a welder for over 40 years at the Cleveland Vibrator Company, many times earning "Employee of the Year" for his reliability and trustworthiness.
Despite the long hours as a welder, and even a part time job at a local hotel at one point, Dudley never let work keep him from spending time with his family, as he was deeply devoted to them! He was particularly eager to be in the stands for his children's sporting events, never missing one despite his long work hours, and was extremely proud and fiercely protective of not only his children, but his grandchildren as well!
During his free time, Dudley like few things better than fishing on Lake Erie. He could also be found cheering on his favorite Cleveland sports teams, swapping out the various ball caps he owned so he was always "dressed for the occasion"!
He was one of the oldest members of the Christ Church Congregation in Columbia Station, having followed that church community from its foundation in Parma.
Dudley was a soft spoken man and one of few words, so his actions spoke for him instead. They told the story of a hard worker, but one who never let his job affect his ability to be the beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend he will be remembered as and that will be mourned by all who knew him!
Visitation for both Dudley and his wife, Delrose, will be held Saturday, January 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Busch Funeral Home, 4334 Pearl Rd., Cleveland OH 44109.
A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at West Park Cemetery, Cleveland.
