Duke Griffis, 62, of Homerville passed away Sunday afternoon, October 1, 2023, at Clinch Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Jacksonville, FL to the late Norman “Pud” Griffis and Naomi Jeffords. Mr. Griffis lived in Jacksonville, FL until he was 13 when the family moved to Homerville. He was a 1979 graduate of Clinch County High School. Mr. Griffis was a Crane Operator and eventual Equipment Supervisor for 33 years at Brooks Welding in Valdosta. He loved to hunt and fish and was a member of Camp Branch Hunting Club for over 40 years.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Collier Reed Griffis; infant brother, Timmy Griffis; best friend, Robbie Day; brother-in-law, Steve Wooten.
He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Dottie Griffis of Homerville; three children, Charles “Storm” Griffis (Britt) of Homerville, Devon Leviton (Grant) of Homerville, and Holly Griffis of Athens, GA; five grandchildren, Ryleigh Ballance, Larson Leviton, MillieFaye Leviton, Jack Griffis, and Desi Leviton; four siblings, Norman “Penny” Griffis (Rose) of Millwood, Vana Bennett (Allen) of DuPont, GA, Jeff Griffis of Homerville, and Judi Wooten of Climax, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon, October 7, 2023, at 2 pm at Lighthouse Assembly of God. Burial will follow in Camp Branch Providence Cemetery in Manor.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
The family requests the members of Camp Branch Hunting Club to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 1:40 pm Saturday for the service.
