Duncan Getty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 29, 2026.
Duncan Morgan ("Dink") Getty passed away suddenly in Eugene, Oregon. Dink was born in Portland, Oregon to Barbara ("Bobbie") and Leonard Getty. As the youngest of four boys, and the smallest, he was given his nickname, even though, at 6'7", he eventually outgrew them all.

When Dink was a boy, his family moved to Redlands, CA where Dink excelled at high school football. Prior to his senior year, Dink moved with his parents to Huntsville, Alabama. Dink attended Auburn University, playing football and majoring in Animal Science.

After graduating in 1974, Dink purchased Frontier Pack Station in June Lake, CA; a place where he had worked summers since high school. There, he took people on horseback trips into the John Muir Wilderness and Yosemite National Park. He expanded his business to include wild mustang viewing trips and the popular spring and fall horse and cattle drives between June Lake and Bishop. He also owned and operated Millpond Boarding Stables in Bishop, CA, close to his Round Valley ranch. Millpond's Sunday roping and team penning events became a weekly tradition in Bishop. He played a key role in the early days of Mule Days celebration.

In 1994, Dink moved with his wife and two children to Missouri to raise mules. He quickly realized that his heart was in the Sierra, and in 1995 purchased what is now Genoa Trees and Landscape Materials in Minden, NV. With little background knowledge, Dink studied and worked tirelessly to become a trusted source for all things landscaping. In 2003, Dink purchased DC Bar and Grill, renaming it Taildragger Café.

When Dink retired in 2019, he moved to Oregon where he enjoyed crabbing, fishing, and developing a large parcel of land.

Dink is survived by brothers Brian and Doug, and his two children Garrett (Chloe) and Arel, of whom he was immensely proud.

Dink lived a life befitting his stature. He loved his children, his friends, his animals, and working on heavy equipment. Much of his life was spent bringing happiness to others, either through backcountry experiences or with new landscaping for their homes. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Taildragger Café, 1150 Airport Road, Minden, NV.
