It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our son, brother, and uncle–Dustin Bradley Stephens on March 3rd, 2026. Born January 24th, 1976, and resided in West Jordan, Utah.
Dustin lived life at full volume. He loved big, he laughed loud, and he worked and played hard. He was blue-collar, but he had a taste for the finer things—good food, the right gear, and the best brands. He was creative as heck, too. He only dabbled in pottery and photography, but he’d pull off these pieces that were just so dang good!
The outdoors was his reset button. Whether he was on a skateboard, a snowboard, a boat, or just hiking a trail, he was in his element.
Man, could that son of a gun hold a grudge! We’re still laughing (and kind of annoyed) about the time he shared a Google Photos folder with us. We didn’t check it fast enough for his liking, so he just unshared the whole thing and never let us back in. Total jerk move—but that was Dustin. He was an incessant tease. He knew exactly how to drive you up the wall, but he’d have you laughing two seconds later.
To get a peek at Dustin’s heart, which he always joked was cold and dark, look at his nieces and nephews. He took being an "Uncle" seriously, spoiling the kids rotten—personal birthday shopping trips, salon visits to get their hair dyed, dinner at fancy sushi places, carving pumpkins, building gingerbread houses, camping, and fishing. He loved passing off tickets to the productions he ran as the Head Flyman at Kingsbury Hall, bringing them backstage to show them the ropes and let them help him pull the curtain.
He spent years at Kingsbury and co-owned Wasatch Projections with his best friend Mike, together turning it into a much sought-after company in the entertainment rigging industry in Salt Lake. In the stage crew world, your crew is your family, and Dustin protected his. Even during COVID, when the industry went dark, he was out there offering to run errands for anyone stuck at home. He was the kind of guy who’d give you the shirt off his back. Of course, it would’ve been a really nice, high-end shirt, because he didn't do cheap.
Lastly, everything he did, he did for his cat and his hedgehog.
Dustin is survived by his mother, Diane Sackett Stephens, siblings–Jake Stephens (Alisha), Brandon Stephens (Angie), and Dana Crowther, and nieces and nephews–Lily (Reuben), Jackson, Porter, Amelie, Ben, Elim, and Noah Stephens, and Caleb, Naomi (Val), Kjerstianna, and Torden Crowther.
He is preceded by his father, Ted Eddie Stephens, siblings, Melinda and Clinton Stephens, and brother-in-law, Gabriel Crowther.
A memorial for close family, friends, and riggers is being held on Friday, March 20th, from 5-7 pm at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E. in Murray, Utah, where his memories will be shared.
