Dwight D Grissom was the only son born to James O. Grissom and Alice L. Hall (Grissom) on July 23, 1956, in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
His parents and sisters Patricia and Betty Jo (Longo) preceded him in death.
He received his education in the Jackson public school system and graduated from Wingfield High School in 1974.
Dwight worked at several places (his father's service station on Meadowbrook Road and at the Graduate Supply House) before beginning his career with the USPS. Dwight's postal career as a mail carrier spanned 23 years until his medical retirement in 2013.
Even though he enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles along the California coast and driving fast cars, Dwight loved being a grandfather to his 8 grandchildren and his 2 great grandchildren.
Whether spectating and cheering at a football game or a karate tournament he was there to offer support when his health permitted.
Dwight departed this earthly plane on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 1800.
Dwight leaves to treasure his memory his faithful, devoted, and loving wife of 23 years Rachel; his devoted son Jason (Alisha), and daughter Justina; his grandchildren: Justin, Marshaun, Samara, Mason, Jamara, Owen, especially Corey and Braydon, great granddaughter, A'riah and great grandson, Lamar (Oakland, California & Lake, Mississippi); a devoted mother-in-law, Annie (Oakland, California); a devoted brother-in-law, Eddie (Jacqueline), Surprise, Arizona; his favorite and only niece, Angela (Steven) and great nephew John Steven, (Brandon, Mississippi) who showed kindness and patience until the end; his dog and faithful companion, D’OG; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi, on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, with a funeral service following in the chapel at 7:00 pm.
