Dwight Harrison Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Calvary Mortuary - Beaumont on Sep. 12, 2024.
Dwight Webster Harrison, born on October 12, 1948, in Beaumont, Texas, was the beloved second son of William Henry Harrison and Charlean Toliver Harrison. On Tuesday, September 2, 2024, Dwight journeyed home to be with the Lord.
From an early age, Dwight embraced his faith and during his youth, was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Beaumont. Dwight's belief in the power of prayer remained steadfast and in his final moments, Dwight's faith shone brightly. As his brothers gathered by his bedside in prayer, his final words, "Thank you," were a tender expression of gratitude and peace, symbolizing that his work here was complete.
Dwight's academic and athletic journey began in Beaumont's public schools, where he attended South Park High School. During his time there, he garnered numerous accolades in football and track and field, including becoming a three-time state champion in both the long jump and high jump.
After high school, Dwight continued his remarkable athletic career at Texas A&I College in Kingsville, Texas. His exceptional talent on the football field earned him All-American honors, while his prowess in track and field led him to win five gold medals in the Lone Star Conference meets. Dominating the high jump and long jump events in 1968 and 1969, Dwight cemented his legacy as one of the greatest athletes in Texas A&I's history, ultimately being inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1985.
In 1971, Dwight's athletic talents took him to the National Football League (NFL) when he was drafted in the second round by the Denver Broncos. After a year, he was traded to the Buffalo Bills, where he spent seven remarkable seasons before concluding his professional football career with the Oakland Raiders.
Outside of sports, Dwight found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing, hunting, and working on cars, and cherished the time he spent on his farm in Warren, Texas, raising cattle alongside his parents. These quiet moments were where Dwight's heart felt most at home.
Dwight is preceded in death by his beloved parents, William and Charlean Harrison.
He leaves to treasure his memory daughter, Kimberly Summers (Ted); two brothers, William Gregory Harrison (Jacqueline), Dallas, Texas, and Kenneth Wayne Harrison (Debra), Laguna Niguel, California; and two cherished grandsons, Malcolm Summers, New York and Ian Summers, Acworth, Georgia. Dwight also leaves behind a loving extended family, including nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and a host of dear friends.
As we reflect on Dwight's life, we are grateful for the kindness and love shown to him by so many. Dwight's memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at Calvary Mortuary Chapel under the direction of Calvary Mortuary Staff.

I have very fond memories of knowing Dwight as both our families were life long members at St John. Dwight was also my classmate for most our formative years, until he attended South Park High and I attended Hebert High. Dwight certainly went on to make St John and Beaumont proud ! One of my fondest memories was visiting with Miss Charlene and Mr Jake shortly before they relocated from Beaumont as they were dear friends of my parents (Helen and Forrest Richardson). My sincere condolences to Dwight´s family and may he rest in eternal peace.
