Dwight Michael (Butch) Jemison, a long time resident of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully January 11, 2023 at his home after a long illness. Dwight was born October 3, 1946 in Rochester, NY. Dwight is survived by his beloved wife Patricia; his children D. Michael (Kristin) Jemison, Jr., and Dana M. (Theresa) Jemison; 3 cherished grandchildren Andrew, Mia and Leah; his sister Valerie Truax; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Edmund and Theresa (Cook) Jemison and his brothers Thomas and Andrew (Elizabeth).
He was raised on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation in upstate New York. He graduated from Akron High School in Akron, NY in 1964. Shortly thereafter he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany and then later in Vietnam. He was discharged in 1968. He received his teaching certificate from Buffalo State College and went on to teach Industrial Arts at Union-Endicott High School until his retirement. He also coached the U-E lacrosse and wrestling teams. Dwight was a member of American Legion Post 82, VFW Post 1449 and a was a charter member of the Organization of Vietnam Veterans of America. He also served in the Army Reserves. An active Freemason, Dwight was a member of Akron Lodge #527, a Past Master of Johnson City Unity Lodge #970 and a member of several other Masonic organizations. He was also a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Binghamton. Dwight enjoyed travel, golf and woodworking. Dwight could walk into any place not knowing anyone and by the time he left he knew everyone.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm Monday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:00 pm followed by a VFW service and the conferral of Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lourdes Hospice in recognition of the exceptional care they provided to Dwight during his final days. You may also honor Dwight by talking to and spending time with a friend or better yet, a stranger who you can make into a friend.
