Dwight Lee Luckenbaugh (Ike), 81, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Manassas, Virginia. Born September 18th, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harold Luckenbaugh, Sr., and Catherine (Hackenburg) Luckenbaugh. Ike’s journey through life was marked by an unwavering devotion to family, community, and professional accomplishments. He had an infectious optimism and sense of humor.
Ike was a graduate of John Harris High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he was an avid baseball player and proudly spoke of his accomplishments as a paper boy. His skill in business and love of sales would eventually lead to moving his family to New Jersey for new opportunities with Lipton. His commitment to work would lead to Unilever Foods, retiring as the Director of National Accounts after 28 years of dedicated service.
Ike was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carol Luckenbaugh (Bair), who he married on January 12, 1965, and spent 35 years of marriage together. Together they raised four sons, openly welcomed four daughters-in-law into the family, who brought forth twelve amazing grandchildren. The family that they built together surrounded Ike in his final days, telling stories made possible only by the love that the two shared.
The devotion to his family were at the forefront throughout his life, always making it a priority to spend time with his sons, playing golf, shooting hoops, coaching sports, and engaging over meals. He was incredibly proud of his son’s accomplishments, particularly to have seen them all graduate from college, and in support of their varied interests and callings. As his family grew, he made every effort to be with his grandchildren, ensuring that family beach vacations and holiday celebrations continued each year, while supporting and attending events at their schools, sports and theatre activities. His grandchildren treasured their Christmas visits, playing games around the kitchen table, and even the quietest, simple moments of reading together.
His support for the community was substantial, receiving leadership awards and serving as the president of the Westfield Jaycees, in Westfield, New Jersey, and the James City Lions Club, in Williamsburg, Virginia. He assisted numerous charity golf tournaments, coordinated youth sports leagues and tournaments, and served the YMCA and Meals on Wheels. His lifelong passion for service had significant impacts on those he served and provided a framework for his family to follow.
Ike is survived by his four loving sons, Dean (Robin), David (Ruth Anne), Scott (Pam), Jason (Danelle), his twelve grandchildren, Rachel, Justin, Joshua, Alex, Megan (Krayer), Noah, Sophia, Brandon, Tyler, Kelsey, Jacob, and Aiden, as well as his siblings, Joyce George, Harold Luckenbaugh Jr., and Sharon Wentling.
A funeral service will be held on September 20, 2025, at 11am, at Floris United Methodist Church, 13600 Frying Pan Road, Herndon, Virginia 20171. A private internment will take place at Williamsburg Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Williamsburg YMCA (www.ymcavp.org/donate).
The nightly ceremony in Washington, D.C. will be dedicated in honor of your loved one on the day of your choosing.
