Obituary published on Legacy.com by Robbins Brothers Funeral Home - Benton Harbor from Sep. 29 to Oct. 1, 2025.
Dwight Antonio Murray, the fifth child of seven children, was born on October 8, 1955 to the late Ozzie and Minnie Lee Murray (Anderson) and in Joiner, Arkansas. At a very young age, Dwight's family relocated to
Benton Harbor, MI.
He first met the love of his life, Pattie Adams while attending Benton Harbor High School where they first became friends. Later on in their twenties, they began dating while both attending Bethlehem Temple Church in Benton Harbor. On December 12, 1981, they were joined in Holy Matrimony. To their beautiful union they completed their family with son, Jamel and daughter Ambria.
Dwight had a passion for baseball and carpentry, both of which were evident at an early age. He enjoyed playing baseball as a young man and at one time was scouted in high school to play collegiately. He excelled in all academics and was highly gifted in math. By the time he was in the 11th grade, he was offered a position as a drafter with a tool and die company after graduation.
After graduating from Benton Harbor High School in 1973, Dwight followed in his father's footsteps and obtained his apprentice license in carpentry from the State of Michigan. Some years later, he pursued and earned his contractor's license, contributing to the construction of commercial buildings, bridges, housing complexes, and homes. He was a proud member of Local 525, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for 32 years. For more than 22 years, he was employed at Cook Nuclear Plant.
Dwight gave his life to the Lord as a teenager and was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit. Called to the ministry as a young man, he served God faithfully in many capacities-with deep devotion and commitment. He was a faithful Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer & Trustee, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Bible class teacher, and helped start the prison ministry at Greater Faith Apostolic Church, here in Benton Harbor. He diligently worked hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder with the Deacon Board to complete the construction of this edifice, Greater Faith Apostolic Church. He was ordained as an Elder in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. and he preached, evangelized, and shared the gospel wherever he was led by the Spirit of God. Most recently, he served as Pastor of Souls Harbor Church under Pastor Suffragan Bishop Tony Thomas of Christ Temple Church in Kalamazoo, MI.
Dwight never passed up an opportunity to witness to others whether it was at the grocery store, on his job, at the gas station or even to the nurses in the hospital while receiving medical care. He never turned away anyone who needed help and was always willing to bless others in any way possible.
Affectionately called, "Uncle Tony", Dwight loved assigning funny nicknames to his nieces, nephews and cousins. During his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, walking and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was mild-mannered, loving, kind and had an amazing sense of humor. He especially loved to bake and perfected the best pecan oatmeal chocolate chip cookies in town.
On Friday, September 26, 2025, Dwight Antonio Murray peacefully passed away being fully persuaded that he had finished his course, he had kept the faith and was now ready to receive the crown that God laid up for him.
