E-5 Ernest Michael Garcia (USA, Retired)
Ernest Michael Garcia, a veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away on July 28, 2022 at 9:40pm surrounded by his family. Ernest fought a long hard battle against MDS to beat all the odds given to him by doctors to prove his will survive and leave this life on his own terms. He was born on July 13, 1947 in San Antonio, NM and attended Manzano High School before enlisting into the United States Army
.
Ernest was a Sergeant stationed in Albuquerque, NM when he met the love of his life, SP 4 CeCelia Henderson, and they were married 6 months later on August 8, 1970 at the San Antonio Church in Tijeras, NM. Shortly after being married, they both retired to Sidney, MT where they started their family having 3 kids and resided there for 10 years before moving to San Antonio, TX where Ernest retired from the United States Postal Service.
Ernest loved bowling, working on cars, and golfing with his friends. He loved coaching his daughter s softball teams, doing Krav Magra and working out with his son, and doing yard work and going to bingo with his wife.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 52 years, CeCelia CeCe Garcia. His children, Leslie Garcia, Melinda Barricklow (Gary), and Ernest Garcia, Jr. (Dolores). His grandchildren, Mersadyz Ann Elizardo, Cody Huff (Raini), Brianna Huff (Roland), Faith Garcia, and Brooke Garcia. His great grandchildren, Payton Barricklow and Layton Huff. His siblings, Eddie Garcia (Elena), Jennie Roybal, Virginia Archuleta, Manuel Martinez, and Kathy Martinez. He was also loved by many of his cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his grandparents, Santiago Gutierrez and Maria Baca. His parents, Francisco Garcia and Rose Gallegos. His uncle Jesus Garcia and aunt Celestina Garcia who raised him. His siblings, Rosemary Garcia, Diane Lovato, and Felimon Jr. Gallegos.
His family will be having a celebration of life from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Palm Heights Mortuary, 3711 S. Zarzamora Street, San Antonio, Texas 78225. Refreshments will be served.
His gravesite service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, 2 p.m. at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1820 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
