Earl Seymore (Popeye) Burgess, age 92, of Cabot, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 21, 2023. He was born in Austin, Arkansas on March 7, 1931, to Richard and Lottie Burgess.

Earl was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Cabot where he served in the music ministry as a bass guitarist. Aside from the music ministry with his church, he enjoyed traveling and playing in a band with his friends. He also loved fishing with his son and friends as well as gardening. He had many careers, but his most recent and longest career was as a self-employed carpenter. In his free time, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Earl was loved by many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Burgess; mother, Lottie Hefner Burgess; brothers, Robert, Loyd, and Johnny; sister, Louise Skinner; and daughter, Barbara Burgess.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Frances Sue Burgess of Cabot; daughter, Carolyn (Jim) McClendon of Austin; son, Richard (Sheila) Burgess of Cabot; sisters, Pat Dodd of Cabot and Marcia Watson of Benton; 7 grandchildren, Justin (Kristen) McClendon, Emily McClendon, Kristi (Jarod) Maynard, Stephanie (Clint) Roper, Breyanne (Clint) Watson, Tiffanie (Jared) Fowlkes, Jessica (Jacob) Knight; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Smith Westbrook Funeral Home, 404 W Dewitt Henry Dr, Beebe, Arkansas 72012. A graveside service will follow at Hicks Cemetery in Lonoke with an ETA of 12:00 PM.
