Charles Arthur Burgess "Chuck", 77, of Carver, MA, passed away on March 21, 2026, peacefully in his home in Carver.

Service will be held at Shepherd Funeral Home at 116 Main Street in Carver, MA on Friday, April 3, 2026. Visitation will be held from 3pm -7pm with a 5:00 pm closing prayer followed by a military tribute in his honor.

Chuck was born in Boston to Charles Burgess and Ann Hart on March 4, 1949. He was a graduate of Quincy High School in 1967, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business. He was a Vietnam War Navy Veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart honor for being wounded in battle.

He joined the Newton City Fire Department in 1974 before retiring in 1999. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, watching old cowboy movies, and walking his dogs, He really enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.

Chuck is survived by his beautiful wife of 55 years, Paula Burgess of Carver, daughter Jennifer Burgess of Plymouth, son Peter Burgess and Daughter-in-law Shannon Burgess of Carver, and their two children Ophelia and Waylon, and several brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Charles Burgess, mother Ann Hart and stepfather John Morris.

Chuck was always great for a laugh, a bad joke or a one of his famous sayings. We will miss his smile, his laughter, his love and his presence.
