Earl Campbell, age 81, had a peaceful transition into Jesus’ arms surrounded by his loving family at 12:01am on Friday, February 17, 2023 after a valiant 4-week battle with double pneumonia and congestive heart failure.
Earl was born in Butler, TN to Lester and Dora Campbell on July 6, 1941.
In addition to his parents, Earl is preceded in death by son Eric Campbell; stepson Adrian Eller; and brothers Floyd, Paul and Billy.
Earl is survived and missed by his loving wife of 48 years Barbara; his sons, Earl Campbell, Jr. and his wife Melissa, Jason Campbell and his wife Sarah; daughter Debbie Mottern; sisters, Margie Perkins (Albert), Wanda Campbell; grandchildren Billy Winters, Cecilia Hammons, Kimberly Hammons, Ethan Campbell, Abrielle Campbell, Lester Campbell, Craig Campbell, Blade Campbell, Shanta Williams, Jessica Jupin, Michael Stanley, Stephanie Eller, Nichole Eller, Andrea Lunceford and AJ Eller; numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces; special friends Wilson Fields and Herbert and Dawn Nichols.
Earl forged a life all his own from hitchhiking at age 13 to start work in Pennsylvania in a mushroom house and then transitioned to work at General Motors. He retired after 30 years at GM where he prided himself with never missing one day of work. Earl was always an extremely hard worker and picked up too many odd jobs to ever slow down.Earl loved his family fiercely. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. Anyone who knew Earl knew that he was full of life and enjoyed showing his love to others by his hard work, building everything and always sharing his “Earlisms.” His legacy will carry on forever with the memories we will carry in our hearts. During his final days, his testimony and witness shared with loved ones showed his intense desire for others to put their trust in Jesus.
