Earl Chan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cypress Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park on Dec. 6, 2023.
A loyal friend to all, Earl Chan passed away peacefully at his home on November 19, 2023 at the age of 70. During his lifetime, Earl's soft spoken demeanor was dedicated to the wellbeing of others and he was surrounded by unwavering encouragement throughout his courageous battle with cancer.
Born in San Francisco on October 5, 1953, his parents were the late Roy Sar Chan (1991) and Alice Suet Chan (2005). Earl is survived by his brother, Myron, his sister-in-law, Susan, his foster brothers and sisters, along with countless friends.
A lifelong Californian, Earl graduated from George Washington High School and attended City College in San Francisco in 1973. Following his graduation from San Francisco University in 1976, he taught at the San Francisco United School District through 1980. Earl was employed by the United States Postal Service from 1981 through 1990 prior to his position as Deputy Sheriff for the San Francisco Sheriff's Department until his retirement in December 2006.
Earl's gentle nature and enjoyment of music were expressed through his love of playing the violin and piano. His favorite pastimes included collecting antique furniture, vintage clocks, and exploring flea markets in the Bay Area. In addition, he tended Bonsai Trees and appreciated the joy and contentment they brought into his home.
Earl will be missed by his family, friends, and community. He was truly a gentle giant with a big heart
