Earl J. "Kip" d'Entremont, Jr. (February 4, 1940 - May 14, 2025) passed away peacefully at the age of 85 in Wilmington, North Carolina. Kip is survived by his wife Joanna E. (Lindelof) and predeceased by his sisters Sandra Johnson and Darrell O'Hara.
Kip is also survived by his children, Beth Mongeau, and her husband, Steve of Hampstead, North Carolina, Jim and his wife, Andrea of Franklin, Massachusetts, and Philip and his wife, Tracy of Plympton, Massachusetts and by his grandchildren, Kelsey, Oliver (wife Bre), James Mongeau, Jesse (wife Sarah), Katelyn, Luke d'Entremont, and William, Sarah d'Entremont. He also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews, who he always called his "kids."
Kip was born to Earl J. d'Entremont Sr. and Phyllis (Durgin) d'Entremont in Boston, MA and grew up in the Ponkapoag neighborhood of
Canton, Massachusetts.
Kip and Joanna settled in and raised their children around the corner from his childhood home where his sister and brother-in-law were raising their family. Family and friends were always the focus of their lives. They would spend time supporting their children's athletic, artistic, and academic pursuits. Summers would find the family on adventures like camping or in Eastham, often with the O'Hara family, or with the Lindelofs. In their home, you would often find family and friends gathered for playing cards, cookouts/clambakes, Christmas Eve, and Sunday dinners, but you didn't skip church.
Kip served in the Army Reserves for 8 years and also worked as an insurance adjuster for well over 30 years. Active in politics, he could be found campaigning for local and national candidates and working the polls. He also served the Canton community, at various points acting as constable, a volunteer firefighter, member of the finance council, a local business owner, and a member of the Board of Incorporators for the Bank of Canton.
Kip and Joanna enjoyed exploring Cape Cod and travelling in their retirement with family and friends. They watched their family grow with deep pride and derived joy from supporting and being with each of them. Kip built a wonderful community of friends in Eastham, marked by 4:00 AM treasure hunting on the beach followed by countless coffee shop mornings with his buddies, frequent trips to the dump to search for good free stuff, square dancing, and many years of service to the people of Eastham particularly through volunteering at the Senior Center.
Kip led life authentically. He leaves a legacy of love and taught us all the importance of family and friends, faith, lifelong commitment to marriage, service, civic duty, and caring for others; as well as, how to tell a great story.
Kip's family will celebrate his life and legacy on May 31, 2025 @ 11:00 a.m. at a funeral Mass at All Saints Catholic Church, Hampstead, NC followed by a reception at the church. A Celebration of Kip's life will take place on Sunday, June 29, in Massachusetts followed by his Rite of Committal (burial) at Canton Corner Cemetery in
Canton, MA on June 30 at 11:30 a.m. Further details will follow. Donations may be made in Kip's memory to New Hope Initiative's Sierra Leone Project, Town of Eastham Senior Center or All Saints Catholic Church.
