Earl R. Holmes

Earl R. Holmes, 78, of Koontz Lake passed away on Friday September 26, 2025, at the Center for Hospice Raclin House in Mishawaka.

Earl was born on August 24, 1947, in LaPorte, IN to the late Alton and Ethel (McCarty) Holmes.

Earl graduated from North Liberty High School, class of 1965 and joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country in Vietnam.

Earl married Virginia Litteral, sharing 25 years of marriage before her passing 2009.

Earl loved to fish, especially off his back deck on Koontz Lake. He loved to ride motorcycles and was active in class reunions and regular lunches with his former classmates. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 30, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1954, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Charter 42 in Plymouth.

Earl is survived by his children; Ellen (Alex) Scott, Rachel (Steven) Schroeder, Gina (Lane) Groves, Ronald (David Leyba) Walls, Mike Walls, and Donald (Ellie) Walls along with 35 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and his brother, Travis (Joan) Holmes.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his children; Brenda Cisney, Kathy Tingle, Ernest Walls Jr, and Larry Walls, as well as his brother, Jerry Holmes.

A graveside committal will be held at 11am on Friday October 3, 2025 at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty.
