Earl Michael "Mike" Boule, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away from a sudden illness on January 16, 2026, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, while surrounded by his family. Mike was born and raised in Albuquerque, where he lived until 1994, when he moved to Santa Fe.
Mike attended the New Mexico Military Institute, graduating from both high school and junior college. He later earned his degree from the University of New Mexico, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Mike was deeply committed to serving his country throughout his life. He served as a commissioned officer in the United States Naval Reserve and retired with the rank of Commander. During his service, he was called to active duty for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where he earned several medals and ribbons in recognition of his dedication.
Following his military career, Mike worked for United States Gypsum and Building Specialties in Albuquerque and El Paso, TX for 21 years, and later at Los Alamos National Laboratory, from which he retired in 2022. His commitment to service continued through volunteer work with the American Red Cross-National Disaster Team, where he supported communities during multiple statewide wildfire seasons. More recently, he proudly served the New Mexico State Legislature as Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms for the House role he held in high regard.
Those who knew Mike understood that his greatest passions were people and cooking. He loved bringing together family, friends, and even strangers, preparing meals and sharing conversations that created lasting memories for everyone gathered around his table.
Mike is survived by his wife, Margarita Ochoa Boule; his son and daughter-in-law Brad and Elyse Boule; his daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Matthew Thompson; his granddaughters, Chloe Boule and Riley Thompson; and his grandson, Luke Thompson. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Janet "Bunny" and Daniel Sanchez; Wendell "Wendy" and Benjamin Baczenas; and Sydney "Cindy" Boule & Randy Baker. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Betty Lou Boule.
As one relative shared after Mike's passing, "He was a bright light in our lives, and will forever be that light." No truer words have been spoken. Services will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mike's honor to your charity of choice.
