Earl Dean Vicars, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully left this world on November 20, 2025, in Sugarland, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 3, 1937, in Tyler, Texas, Earl devoted his life to his family and his work, earning recognition as a steadfast and hardworking individual.
Earl proudly served his country in the United States Army in Germany and Colorado in the 8th Infantry Division, where he earned his honorable discharge, demonstrating the values of commitment and dedication that would characterize his life. After his military service, he embarked on a notable career as a welder for Pipefitters Local 211, where he spent over 37 years crafting a legacy of service and professionalism. His devotion to his profession was exemplified when he was honored with a 50-year member pin, a tribute to his unwavering commitment. He was also committed to the children of the Sweeny community, volunteering his time coaching in the Sweeny Little League all through his son's lives. After retirement, Earl enjoyed traveling with his wife Joy Lou and his brother and sister-in-law.
In the spirit of love and devotion, Earl married his beloved wife of 63 years, Joy Lou (Sewell) Vicars, on December 22, 1961, at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and memories that will be treasured forever. Earl’s family was the proudest thing in his life; he never missed a chance to spend quality time with his children and grandchildren, instilling in them values of hard work, love, and perseverance.
Earl is survived by his treasured family: his wife, Joy Lou; his children, Larry Vicars and his wife Debra of Bay City, TX, Mike Vicars and his wife Susan of Sweeny, TX, and Andrea Schulze and her husband B.J. of Chappell Hill, TX. He was a doting grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Shelby Allen (Garrett), Mason Vicars (Katelyn), Kash Morrison, Swade Schulze, and Kolton, as well as his great-grandchildren: Tyler Faith Alba, Nixon Allen, and Maverick Vicars.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy through the bonds he forged with his loved ones, who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts. Earl found enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life; he was an avid gardener, tended affectionately to his cows, and loved watching westerns. Earl was also a voracious reader, often staying up late into the night just to finish a captivating book.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Marie Gray (Wilson) and Elzie Vicars, as well as his brothers, Bruce Vicars and Howard Vicars. Their memories will continue to live on in the hearts of those who remain.
Friends, family and members of Pipefitters Local 211 are invited to celebrate Earl’s remarkable life with visitation on November 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny, located at 402 Main Street, Sweeny, TX, with Pastors Warren Rayburn and John Price officiating. Interment to follow at Sweeny Cemetery.
Earl Dean Vicars will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the honor of knowing him. His life was a testament to love, service, and family, and he leaves behind a world that is better for having had him in it.
