Earnest Michael Harris

Mr. Earnest Michael Harris, age 70, of Resaca, GA, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 11, 2025, surrounded by the family he cherished above all else.

Born September 7, 1954, in Fayetteville, Tennessee, Earnest was the son of the late Robert Lee and Geneva Harris. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Riley Jean Harris; sisters, Barbara Goodner and Ovie Wooten; brothers, Arthur Lee Harris, Ozzie Harris, and Vernon Harris; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard Hopper, Pauline Waters.

From the moment his beloved Mary laid eyes on him, she knew - telling her family, "That's the man I'm going to marry." Forty-eight years later, they had built a life rich with love, laughter, and devotion, recently celebrating their anniversary on July 25, 2025. Earnest believed in love at first sight because he had lived it.

A man of many passions, Earnest had a special fondness for old cars and could often be found tinkering with small motors, building model cars and airplanes, or going to car shows. He found joy in camping, and his meticulous attention to his lawn was a source of great pride - every blade of grass a reflection of his hard work and care. His yard was his canvas, and he tended it with the same dedication he showed to his family and friends.

He was retired from the Mapei Corporation and a faithful member of White Graves Baptist Church.

Earnest is survived by his loving wife, Mary Hopper Harris; daughter, Melissa Roberts; sons, Michael Eugene Harris, all of Resaca, GA, and Joshua Lee (Brooke) Harris of Chatsworth, GA; grandchildren, Tyler (Jessica) Roberts, Tailer Roberts, Alexi Harris, Emilee Harris, Hunter Neighbors, Kyleigh Neighbors, and Mason Neighbors; brother, Lawson Harris; brother-in-law, Horace Wooten, both of Huntsville, AL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Hopper of Oklahoma City, OK, Betty Justice of Calhoun, GA, J.W. Hopper of Chatsworth, GA, Kathy (Ricky) Robinson of Cedartown, GA, and Wanda (Bobby) Noland of Dalton, GA; along with several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Earnest Michael Harris will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at White Graves Baptist Church with Reverend Will Allen and Brother Luke Logan officiating. Music will be arranged by Jason Justice and the Banks Family. He will be laid to rest at the Hopper Family Cemetery in Ranger, GA, with Reverend Freed Ware officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Harris, Brian Noland, Hunter Neighbors, Shane Hopper, Jason Justice, and Chris Perian. Honorary pallbearers include Joshua Harris, Tyler Roberts, Tailer Roberts, Eric Justice, and Billy Ray.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Ponders Calhoun Chapel.
