Ed Bluestone Obituary

Ed Bluestone passed away on October 24, due to complications from a stroke. Ed was born in East Orange, N.J. to parents Sydney and Eleanor Bluestone. Ed started as a Stand-up Comic in the 1970's, performing at Catch a Rising Star & The Improv in NY and The Comedy Store in LA. He was a very funny guy, and had a dark sense of humor, as evidenced by one of his "bits" called "How to be Offensive at a Funeral". He appeared on The Tonight Show, The Merv Griffin Show, The Mike Douglas Show, Dean Martin variety series, and also was a regular on the revival of Laugh -In. In 1972 he started writing for the National Lampoon, and conceived one of their most famous magazine covers, featuring a dog with a gun pointed at it's head, and the caption "If You Don't buy this Magazine, We'll Kill this Dog." He transitioned to writing screenplays, which he did for the balance of his career. He also wrote a children's book "Rupert Weddington and his small dogs"
Ed is survived by his ex-wife Ann Stordahl, his brother Bob, and 3 nieces.

Ed was in my oral interpretation class at Monmouth College. Always cutting up the class. Saw him at the Improv in the city and wrote jokes for named comedians. All that plus one heck of a nice guy.

I have been a fan of Ed's since I was a teenager in the 1970's. Ed was very kind to correspond with me for these past many years, and phone calls once or twice a year too. Thank you Ed for being so nice to this fan. Please rest in peace and beauty.

He was a young up and coming comedy writers and for about a moment in time I was his agent
He was married to the lovely ann who was struggling with cancer and he loved her dearly. I see she lives still...happy to know that. I think he was writing for Rodney dangerfield at the time. He was a funny lovely man and I am lucky to have had a chance to know him..

I remember Ed from CJ Scott HS, he was a year ahead of me. Ed was a funny guy with a quick wit and relentless sarcasm. Much of it was unappreciated by those targeted, but hilarious all the same.
