Edward Harry Henschel, age 90, of Martin, SD passed away peacefully at his home on January 5th, 2025. Eddie was born on April 23, 1934, in Martin, SD to Frieda (Lavine) Henschel and Harry Henschel. Eddie grew up on a farm 3 miles west of Martin. He had one sister, Darlene (Henschel) Pich. He graduated from Bennett Co High School and attended college at Chadron State. He then moved to Rapid City, SD., and worked for the Pennington Co. Soil Conservation where he met his wife, Nadine Belmont. They were married on September 6, 1959, and later moved back to Martin to the family farm. Two years later, he and Nadine started a family. To this union three daughters and a son were born; Carmen, Kim, Tom and Freida. Eddie enjoyed farming, especially wheat harvest time. He enjoyed basketball, whether playing, coaching, or refereeing. Eddie also enjoyed dancing and socializing. He was a member of Lindsay Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was an active member for many years in the Order of Eastern Star and held the office of Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of South Dakota in the year of 1995. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #219. He was a member of Farmer’s Coop in Merriman, NE for many years and served on the Bennett Co. Fairboard. He took pride in seeing his grandchildren grow up with an interest in farming.
He is survived by his children Carmen (Dave) Morrison, Kim (Kyle) Harris, Thomas Henschel, and Freida Henschel. Grandchildren: Kalen (Heather) Harris, Klay (Kasi) Harris, Kelsie (Luke) Meeks, Layne (Ami) Livermont, Rayel Livermont, Thayne Henschel, and Weston Henschel. Great Grandchildren: Jace, Harley, Kade, Dean, Koby, Rhyder, Narley, Radley, Blair, and Bryer. Sister-in-law, Gail Belmont. Extended family, Earl and Rachel Adair and family, Samantha Henry, and Makaila Farris. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine; parents Harry, Frieda, and Alice Henschel; sister, Darlene and brother-in-law Bob Pich; Son-in-law, Kyle (Kim) Harris; grandchildren, Kellan Harris and Brady Livermont. A memorial has been established for Black Hills Works of Rapid City, SD. Donations may be sent in care of Security First Bank, PO Box 669, Martin, SD 57551
