Dr. Eddie Lee. Barnes, 89, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina transitioned on September 20, 2023. Dr. Barnes was the husband of the late, Pastor Mary P. Barnes.

His Asian tours of service where he was stationed included Japan, Thailand, Korea and a war tour in Vietnam working in the field hospitals as a Medic. Some of the fond memories his nieces and nephew shared was how he always bought them fantastic souvenirs from everywhere he travelled overseas. His stateside tours included bases in Hawaii, North Carolina, and Virginia. Near the end his of career with the military, he spent one last tour in Germany before retiring back home to Rocky Mount, N.C. He was very proud of his military career which spanned more than 20 years. During his span of time with the military he acquired many medals, commendations and Honors including a special letter from the President of the United States. Among them was the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Good Conduct Medal (6 times awarded). He inspired and coached many of the young men in his church as they went on to perform their duties as soldiers. After retiring from the military, he went on to his next love and hobby working as a diesel mechanic and driving buses with the Coastal Plain Bus Company for another 20 years. During this time, he performed his duties as an ordained minister where he served beside his wife as co-Pastor. He was a soft-spoken gentle giant who supported the ministry by using his soft voice for many years to be the announcer on "The Hour of Deliverance" broadcast on the former WEED radio station. Though he was not one you heard from the pulpit all the time, he always supported his wife in the background by supplying all her needs for the ministry.
