Deacon Eddie Raven Parks Jr., affectionately known as Zake, was born in Concord, Georgia on May 22, 1948, to the late Mr. Eddie Raven Parks Sr. and Leola Harris Parks. Eddie Raven Parks Jr. departed this life on October 29th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his spouse, Carolyn Parks, and his sister, Cozetta Passmore. Eddie enjoyed life with his family and friends. His hobbies included watching the Atlanta Braves and rabbit hunting.
Eddie's work career began as a child as he worked on the farm. He worked several years prior to being employed at Stowe Woodward in 1972 which is where he remained until his retirement. Eddie held positions that included cement man, lathe machine, and shipping, and roll coverer.
Eddie was a member of The Prince Hall Masonic Lodge #296 in Concord, Georgia. He joined Old Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He served on the Deacon Board, was past Chairman of the Deacon Board, a member of the Educational Aid Committee, and was the overseer of the Cemetery Committee. Eddie served faithfully until his health declined. He was also a member of The Pike County NAACP Unit 5228, The United Men of Pike for Progress, and co-owner of B&P Bonding Company in Zebulon, Georgia.
Deacon Eddie Raven Parks Jr. leaves his memories to be cherished in the hearts of his children: Desey (Carmella) Parks of Hoschton, GA, Keisha (Milton) McGill of Griffin, GA, and Eddie Raven Parks III (Sharon) of Thomaston, GA; 6 sisters, Mary Jean (Roy) Hughley of Zebulon, GA, Annie M. Hines, Patricia Beckham, Mae Lizzie Beckham, and Olivia Holmes all of Molena, GA and Linda (Robert) Parks of Union City, GA; sisters and brothers in-law, Dorothy Little, Cynthia (Walter) Holmes, Bernice (Jaffe) Walker, Larry (Iris) Ellerbee, Jerome Ellerbee, and M.C. Ellerbee Jr., all of Thomaston, GA, Mary Hale of Detroit, MI, and Barbara (Carl) Anderson, of Boston, MA, 1 uncle, Henry Milner of Griffin, GA and aunt Bertha Parks. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom mourn his passing.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Burden's Funeral Home. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Old Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church located at 1191 Eppiner Bridge Road in Concord. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service hour. Interment will follow in Old Mt. Calvary Church Cemetery. Pastor Travis Ferguson is the Pastor and Eulogist.
