Eden Collins Shullenberger -- December, 28 1973 – October 2, 2025 On the evening of Thursday, October 2, 2025, Eden Shullenberger left us shortly after the sun set over Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks with the final soft pink rays of light filtering through the window of her hospital room on the top floor of UVM Medical Center. She was surrounded by her entire family and showered in love. She waged a fierce battle against her cancer over the past 6 years: strong, defiant, stoic, and unwaveringly committed to try and outrace it despite the discomfort. Like she did as an elite endurance athlete competing at the national level in high school and college, she was not afraid of entering the "pain cave" if it meant there was a chance of winning. Eden was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1973 and the family moved to Jericho, Vermont in the late '70's. The family home on Nashville Road was a classic Vermont farmhouse originally occupied by Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley. She and her brother Luke would prepare their skis in the same shed where Bentley processed his famous snowflake photos 70 years earlier. She spent summers roaming the beach at the family cottage in Pentwater, Michigan, and spent winters shredding the alpine trails at Cochran's Ski Area and the Nordic trails at the Jericho National Guard biathlon range. During her four years at Mount Mansfield Union High School she was a perennial All-State and All New England runner and skier. She then attended the Stratton Mountain School for a year and competed at Junior Nationals. She then attended UNH on a scholarship and competed at the national level, eventually skiing to multiple top-10 finishes at the NCAA National Championships. The awards, accolades and newspaper clippings from her career covered the walls of her room and the kitchen fridge at the family home.
Eden was an amazing partner, fiercely devoted mother and friend to so many during her life. Eden and her husband Stuart met during their college years in the summer of 1996, and following her graduation from UNH, she moved west to Portland, Oregon. In 1999, they moved to Boulder, Colorado to pursue a life in the Rocky Mountains, and to start a family. Eden joined an outdoor gear company where she made many lifelong friends and enjoyed several years of travelling, hiking, skiing, biking, and outdoor adventures around the west. Eden also found time to obtain a Masters in Sports Management from Minnesota State University where she developed a love and talent for marketing and web design. Shortly after their marriage in 2005, Eden brought both of her beautiful children, Brady and Ryley, into the world. While the call of the west was strong, Vermont created an opportunity to move closer to her family and raise her children in the same community, Jericho, VT, where she grew up. Back in New England, Eden created a beautiful life and home. She tirelessly engaged with her children's activities of skiing, lacrosse, swimming, biking, soccer, basketball, and hiking; where now the awards, accolades and newspaper clippings from her children's careers cover the walls of their rooms and kitchen fridge in her family home. She generously donated her time in her local community as a coach, teacher, board member, and volunteer. She motivated and inspired nearly everyone she met. Eden was selfless, she always made sure other's needs were met before her own.
Eden's skills and talents were broad and impactful, and her legacy lives on in many arenas. As a coach of the Nordic ski team at Mount Mansfield Union High School for many years, she nurtured and mentored countless athletes to performances they never thought they were capable of, and she fostered a team spirit that drove participation levels to some of the highest in program history. When she was first diagnosed with cancer all of her athletes and fans held a surprise pep rally in her driveway that rivaled Friday Night Lights in Texas. As a marketing and web design professional, she created branding, logos, marketing collateral, and websites that continue to generate enduring value for her clients. Her many contributions to multiple communities will be dearly missed.
Eden is survived by her husband Stuart Morigeau and her children Brady (18), and Ryley (15), and by her mother Dianne and father John, brother Luke his wife Kristin and sons Jordan (20) and Cole (17), and countless friends from all eras of her life. The parade of people from primary school, high school, college and adulthood that came through her hospital room over the final weeks was a testament to the strength of her relationships and the bonds that she built with people over her life. A celebration of Eden's life will be held on December, 21st, 2025 from 1:00 – 5:00pm at the Garden Barn at Lang Farm. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor her legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations for an athletic Scholarship fund that will be started in her name. Details on the fund will be shared at the celebration of life.
Thank you to everyone who showed kindness and generosity during Eden's long battle – she and we will be eternally grateful.
