In Indianapolis Dan attended Public School 70 and went on to graduate from Shortridge High School. He attended Kenyon College, graduating in 1978, and received his PhD in Biochemistry from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 1993. Dan was a teacher and scholar at heart, and taught Chemistry at IUPUI and later at University of St Francis in Fort Wayne, IN. He subsequently pursued a career as a scientific writer and editor with the American Chemical Society, retiring in 2019.
Dan dearly loved summers spent at his cabin on Lake Michigan and the joy it brought to his family over many decades. His family is deeply grateful for the memories they shared together in the Northwoods. His spirit lives on there, carried by the breeze over verdant dunes and riding white capped waves parading along the lakeshore.
Dan will be deeply missed by his wife Susan; son Eric Shullenberger (Hannah) of Wexford, PA; daughter Hannah Million (Chris) of Columbus, OH; son Dave Shullenberger (Michelle) of Lagrange, OH; and daughter Mary Shullenberger of Cleveland, OH. Dan’s 4 grandchildren are James Shullenberger (Eric and Hannah’s son), Eleanor and Louise Million (Hannah and Chris’ daughters) and new grandson, Nathan Shullenberger (Dave and Michelle’s son)--their Pop Pop is smiling down on them all. Dan’s 3 siblings, Mary Rosebrough, John Shullenberger, and Bill Shullenberger, will miss their little brother. Dan’s cousin and best friend, Mark Shullenberger, knew him for his quick wit, kind spirit, charm and liveliness that will be missed by the many family and friends not named here.
