Edgar "Ed" Aldrine. Jr., 80, Topeka, Kansas, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
Ed was born on February 21, 1944, in Topeka, the son of Edgar Aldrine, Sr. and Lorene Schulmeister Aldrine. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1962 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. After completing boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Army Signal School in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, he continued in his service with the Army Security Agency in Sinop Turkey until April 1965. Following his military service, Ed was employed by the Menninger Clinic in Topeka as a Clinical Child Care Worker, working with adolescent boys to see that their everyday needs were met. He began his public service to the State of Kansas when he went to work for the Department of Social & Rehabilitation Services, and after 29 years, he retired as the Chief of Investigations in 2006. During those years, Ed was also a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Grade School Council, and played a key role in the planning and construction of Christ the King Grade School. After retirement, he worked various jobs to keep himself busy, but his favorite was working for the Sergeant at Arms in the Kansas House of Representatives.
On October 6, 1979, Ed and Regina Haug were united in marriage at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, Kansas, enjoying over 45 years together.
Ed had many interests including hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, gardening, reading, driving for his Amish friends, and he especially loved attending sporting events of his grandson, Noah. He was a longtime member of the American Legion #2 in Seneca. As an avid Jayhawks, Royals and Chiefs fan, he never missed a game or the opportunity to doze off in his favorite recliner on a Sunday afternoon while watching golf on TV.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; stepfathers, Lloyd Anspaugh and Bob Cushing; and his brother, Fritz Aldrine.
Ed is survived by his wife, Regina Haug Aldrine; sons, Eddie Aldrine (Ronda) and Matthew Aldrine (Erin); his grandson, Noah; his brother, Mike Aldrine of Georgetown TX; brothers and sisters-in-law, Peggy Aldrine of Sun City West AZ, Sharon Aldrine of Topeka, Jeanne Heiman (Tom) of Wichita, Mike Haug (Betty) of Seneca, Mary Haug of Centralia and Cathie Wynkoop of Topeka; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
