Edgar Robert Anderson
August 18, 1930 – January 12, 2026
Edgar Robert Anderson passed peacefully at home on January 12, 2026, in the Long Lake area of Port Orchard, Washington, at the age of 95. Ed lived a full life. He worked hard, stayed busy, told a lot of stories, and never believed in slowing down!
As his son and daughter, we are honored to share a little about our dad and the good life he lived.
Ed was born on August 18, 1930, in Waterman, Washington, to Emma and Edgar Anderson. He was a hard worker early on. He went to work young, first driving the shipyard bus at just 13 years old! By 16, while still in high school, he was driving the school bus too-hauling around his own classmates!
Ed went on to become a general contractor for over 60 years. He built homes, installed septic systems, operated heavy equipment, and helped develop neighborhoods throughout the area. Ed Anderson Construction was a family operation, with Ed working side by side with his sons, something that meant a great deal to him. Over the years, Ed and Marilyn also owned and operated a local water company and had several rental homes, always keeping busy and hands-on.
Ed and Marilyn met while attending Peninsula High School. When Ed wanted to see her, he walked all the way from Waterman to Gig Harbor! Ed waited until he had a solid, full-time job at the fuel station in Gig Harbor before proposing-he wanted to be sure he was ready. They were married for 63 years and built a steady life together-raising their family, working hard, and sharing the everyday ups and downs.
Long Lake became home, and together Ed and Marilyn made it a place filled with family, friends, music, laughter, and a lot of good memories.
Ed and Marilyn enjoyed life in the Long Lake area for over 70 years! They took many road trips and traveled in their motorhome. Music was always part of their lives, and they enjoyed hosting jam sessions with friends at the A-frame, with Ed playing the accordion and drums. They were avid line dancers and were involved with the Old Time Fiddlers - they enjoyed campouts and parades together. Much of their time was spent at Long Lake-boating, BBQs, time with family, visiting with friends, and playing cards and dice games around the table. Taking the grandkids camping to Lake Cushman was a favorite memory, close to their hearts.
Farm animals were always part of Ed's life, with a clear favorite being the bull named Wooly Bully. Ed also loved to walk and talk, usually at the same time. Even in his 90s, he was walking a mile a day-and yes, he had the steps paced out, so he knew exactly how far it was! If you stopped by for a quick visit, chances were you'd stay awhile-Ed had stories to tell, and we loved to hear them!
Ed was preceded in death by Marilyn and their sons Douglas and Rick.
He is survived by his daughter Dianne and son Dennis (and Dianna), along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Ed will be remembered as a kind man who lived a good life, worked hard, loved his family, and was the best dad and grandpa you could ask for-leaving behind a lot of good stories and fun memories.
