Edgar (“Ed”) Ray Sebastian, 87, went home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2026, while at home surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Liberty Wesleyan Church with Rev. David Surrett and Rev. Brandon Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial with military honors will follow the service at Liberty Wesleyan Church cemetery.
Ed was one of seven children and grew up on a dairy farm in Rockingham County. He served his country in the US Navy during peacetime and, after he was released from service, married Barbara Jean Paschal on December 30, 1960. He spent most of his career working for AMP Incorporated as a master welder and manager and was a longtime member of Liberty Wesleyan Church. He loved to fish, garden, watch westerns and, most of all, tell dad jokes. He also loved watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves, and Carolina Tarheel Basketball.
Along with his parents, Ray and Opal Harris Sebastian, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Peggy Tickle, Mattie Bansley, Lois Blackwell, Dean Sebastian and Jessie Sebastian.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Paschal Sebastian; children, David Sebastian (Harriett), Eddie Sebastian (Felicia), Janice Sebastian Wood (Craig); grandchildren, Tyler Sebastian (Jessica), Holly Sebastian, Mackenzie Wood, Jacob Wood and Logan Sebastian; and sister, Nannie Medley, as well as a large and loving group of extended family and friends.
The family is grateful for the kindness, support and dignity Angelene provided during Ed’s final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Wesleyan Church at 15303 US HWY 158, Summerfield, NC 27358; or to the American Cancer Society PO Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741
