On June 19, 2023, Edgar Farmer, Jr., passed peacefully at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. He was born on February 8, 1947, to Mary Catherine and Edgar Farmer, Sr., of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He was the proud oldest of three and shared the love of sister, Edwenna Farmer Raye, and brother, Alonza "Lonnie" Farmer. He graduated from E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina in May 1965. Earning All-State honors as an Offensive Lineman. He earned All-CIAA honors, and was enshrined as a member of the Johnson C. Smith University Football Hall of Fame. He graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in May 1969. Edgar had a long and distinguished career as General Manager of Sales at Saturn in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He returned to Fayetteville, North Carolina to enjoy his retirement.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Catherine & Edgar Farmer, Sr., sister, Edwenna Farmer Raye, and brother, Lonnie Farmer. Left to celebrate his life are son Robert Anthony Farmer of Raleigh, North Carolina and Granddaughter Caroline Farmer of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brother-In-Law Jimmy Raye of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and numerous cousins, a niece and nephew, and lifelong friends.
The Farmer and Raye families wish to offer our sincerest gratitude and thanks to Whispering Pines Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Cape Fear Valley Hospital for the compassionate care and comfort they provided.
The family will host a memorial at Wiseman Mortuary, located at 431 Cumberland Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, July 7, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, he requested that any donations be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in memory of his beloved sister Edwenna Farmer Raye.
