Edgar Jefferson Lieving

Edgar Jefferson Lieving (known as Ed to many friends), dearest husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, of Dixon, Illinois, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 7, 2024. He was the heart and soul of our family and will be dearly missed.
Edgar was born at home outside New Haven, West Virginia, on November 4, 1931, to the late Otmer J. Lieving and Alice V. Lieving. He was a 1949 graduate of Wahama High School in Mason, West Virginia.
Edgar met the first love of his life, Arlona Roney, and they married on September 6, 1951. After Arlona died in 1991, Edgar was lost until he found Shirley Long who was another love of his life. Both Edgar and Shirley were widowers and were grateful for the time and joy they had with their previous spouses, but their souls grew in new ways. God planned a new love for them with more joy in their lives. Edgar and Shirley were married on August 25, 2008. That is when Edgar moved out of the Kingston, Illinois area to Dixon, Illinois.
Edgar loved being outdoors. He was happiest working in his garden and in the yard. He liked to work on small engines like lawn mowers.
Edgar was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlona L. (Roney) Lieving (1991), his sister, Judith A. Young (2024), parents, Alice V. Lieving (2007) and Otmer E. Lieving (1965) and a sister, Virginia D. Lieving (1933).
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Long; 2 children, Arlona (Henry) Fredrickson and Jeffrey (Angela) Lieving; 2 step-sons, Rob Long and Jeffrey Long; 5 grandchildren, Sarah (Mike Lapinsky) Griner, Andrea Durden, Kelsey (Ryan) Gettle, Christine Whitfield, and Kaylee (Derek) Hillinger; 10 great-grandchildren, Noelle, Logan, and Zander Griner, Delilah and William Gettle, Maxwell and Layla Whitfield, Ada, Myles and Isabel Hillinger; 1 brother, Joseph F. Lieving; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will never forget the joy he brought to their lives.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11:00 am at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore, Illinois, with Pastor Jack Smith, officiating. Luncheon following the service to be held at Rosita's Restaurant in DeKalb, Illinois.
He was the foundation of our family. While our hearts mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace.
