Edip Edward N. Mehmet passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2012. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was born in the village of Graca, Albania. He immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 6. He attended Boys High School and City College in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was trained as a combat medic. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Commendation Ribbon for outstanding and dedicated service. He owned and worked in numerous restaurants throughout the metropolitan area and finally settled in Branford where he was the owner of the Gold Coast Grill. He is survived by his loving wife, Bette, his children Diane Fredericks and her husband Gregg of North Haven, Robert Mehmet and his wife Terri of Naples, FL, his son Ronald Mehmet of Branford, and grandchildren Jamie and Shelby. He is also survived by his two brothers Michael and his wife Gail of Brooklyn, N.Y. and James and his wife Patricia of Queens, N.Y., and his nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford. On Wednesday morning he will be waked from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the Chase Parkway Memorial Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury, CT. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the Albanian Mosque, 38 Raymond St. Waterbury, CT 06706 or to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford, CT 06405.
