Edith Ann Bates

On Saturday, February 22, 2025, Edith Ann McMahan Bates passed away.
She was born December 23, 1938, in Iva, SC. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Wallace McMahan and the late Mabel Leona McKee McMahan. Ann was married to the late Roger Dale Bates for 41 years until his passing in January 2025. Her brothers, Jerome, Tommy and Harold McMahan and sisters, Marguerite Gray and Joyce Johnson also predeceased Ann.
Ann worked for 30 years at Iva Manufacturing as a seamstress, and she was a faithful member of Flat Rock Presbyterian Church. She spent most sunny days in her yard working except on Fridays. Every Friday she gathered at Burger King in Iva with close friends to catch up on all of the happenings. Ann was a talker and never met a stranger. She loved life; a happy, chipper person that found joy in the small moments and cherished each day. She enjoyed people and loved her family endlessly.
She is survived by sons, Jimmy Evans (Kye Suk), Steve Evans (Kim), Robin Bates and Ricky Bates (Lydia); sisters, Sara Yandell and Becky McMahan; ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and four very special caregivers.
The family will greet family and friends, Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Flat Rock Presbyterian Church from 10:00 am – 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 am officiated by Elizabeth Jones, CRE and Wanda White. Ann's final resting place will be at Flat Rock Cemetery
The family will be at the residence and has asked in lieu of flowers, to make memorials to Flat Rock Presbyterian Church, 909 Flat Rock Road, Anderson, SC 29624.
