Edith Buranovsky Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barrett Leber Funeral Home - Tenafly on Jan. 19, 2026.
Buranovsky, Edith Marie (nee Mulligan), 86, peacefully entered eternal life on January 16, 2026. Edie was born in Carrolltown, PA as the eldest of seven children. She graduated from St. Francis Hospital Nursing School in Pittsburgh, PA. Edie worked as a surgical nurse in a newly established open heart surgery unit in Morgantown, West Virginia. There, she was introduced to her beloved husband Joseph. They married in 1962 and started their family in Alexandria, Virginia, before relocating to Demarest, New Jersey in 1976.

Edie was a devout Catholic and had a deep spiritual relationship with God. She was active in her parish as a Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, bible study group leader and whatever the church asked of her, the response was always an astounding "yes!" Edie was selfless. She volunteered as a school nurse, class mother, bake sale treat maker…her specialties were chocolate chip cookies and brownies. She could do anything; an accomplished seamstress, baker, crafter, avid reader, chauffeur, tutor and good friend to many.

After her children were grown Edie returned to work as a full-time registered nurse on a geriatric unit. She was quickly promoted to charge nurse. Her faith was always her guide. One particular day a patient began choking. When Edie explained she performed the Heimlich maneuver (silently praying), the resident expelled the food. While others attempted to praise her for saving a life, her response was 'it was the Hail Mary's, not me.'

Edie's greatest love was her family, and she was a quiet strength and backbone to us all. Her encouragement, support and most importantly instilling faith in God in our daily lives.

Edie was predeceased by her husband Joseph, survived by four loving daughters and their families, Maria Sumereau (Timothy), Christine Doerr (Chris), Nicole McGovern (Neil), Jodi Pelisson (Andrew), eight cherished grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Danielle, Timothy, Lauren, Taylor, Ashley, Brooke, Brian, Courtney, Ava, Quinn and Ella. Additionally, Edie was predeceased by her parents and three of her siblings, Thomas Mulligan, Robert Mulligan and Patricia Gregas (nee Mulligan) and survived by three siblings Maurita Mulligan, Mary Lu Steinback (nee Mulligan) and Edward Mulligan.

Mom, there are no words to thank you enough for all the sacrifices you made for us. We love you dearly. May your eternal reward be great. Rest in peace. God bless you.
