Edith Contway Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors- Milford on Jul. 6, 2024.
Edith M. Contway, a long-time resident of Wixom, MI passed away in the late hours of Thursday, July 4, 2024. She was 98 years old.
Edith Mae was born in Half Way, Michigan on May 21, 1926, to parents, James B. Doree and Edith Mary (Howard) Doree. They moved to Core City in Detroit and lived on 17th Street, with their three children, Edith, Howard, and Dorothy. Mom attended school until the 10th grade, then leaving to help her family financially. Her good friend went to school at St. Leo's where mom spotted Leo Contway, and that was that. After marrying in Athens, Georgia while Leo was in the Navy, he returned from active duty in the Philippines, and they returned to Detroit where their first daughter, Katherine was born. Brother, Michael joined the family next, and then a suprise with the birth of their daughter, Cheryl. This made the Contway family move to Livonia, where they resided until 1972. Edith and Leo then moved to Wixom, until Leo retired due to his health. After Leo passed in 1996, Edith's sister, Dorothy moved in with her until her passing. Edith has been a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. We are very thankful for the 98 years we were blessed with her. She will remain in our hearts and minds forever.
She is survived by her children, Katherine (the late Robert) Krupansky, Michael (Janet) Contway, and Cheryl (Richard) White as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Leo B. Contway (d. 1996).
A Time of Sharing will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 1:00PM at Lynch & Sons, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI 48381. Friends and family may gather at the Funeral Home from 11:00AM until the start of the service. Burial to follow in Wixom Cemetery.
