Edith Robb Dixon passed away on May 18 at the age of 91, following a brief and sudden illness. She was blessed to have lived a remarkable life with family and friends. A born and bred Philadelphian, she spent time in Winter Harbor, Maine and Palm Beach, Florida, but Philadelphia was always home.
Along with her husband, Fitz Eugene Dixon Jr. (d. 2006), she was active in the communities in which she lived - attending sports events and charity functions, working on Boards and volunteering. Upon her husbands passing, she took an even more active role on many Boards including assuming the Chairmanship of some. She was always ready to give her well-thought-out opinion and lead with knowledge, passion and determination. She remained active on the Boards of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Abington Jefferson Hospital, the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, the Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park, and the Hill at Whitemarsh of which she was a resident. Edith was a true philanthropist, and her generosity expressed a love for family, friends, and the thoughtfully chosen organizations she served across healthcare, education, the arts, and environmental preservation.
Edith was also passionate about her faith and was an active member of St. Paul's Church in Philadelphia, Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach and St. Christopher's-by-the-Sea in Winter Harbor, Maine. She was chair of the church committee in Maine for many years and still was a strong sounding board for those currently serving.
Edith is survived by her brother, David B. Robb (Patricia), her children George Dixon (Judith) and Ellin Miller (Bruce), grandchildren Christopher Dixon (Karen), Sarah Dixon, and Hilary Spandorfer (Robert) and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service and reception will be held at a later date.

After my first meeting with Mr. Dixon in December 2002 he drive me to their home to meet Mrs. Dixon. I can still picture her greeting me at the door. She gave me a brief tour of first floor. Not your typical home to say the least. Because Mr. Dixon left a little to be desired as a delegator, she appreciated that I treated her as I would any client as opposed to deferring to her husband. We were off and running from that point. We actually had much in common so enjoyed each other's company at dinners. When she called she introduced herself by saying "hi there," no need to name names. After 22 years she has left a noticeable void in my life. I am just glad she did not suffer through a long debilitating end to her remarkable life. Rich Padgham

Edie was a good friend, and with her late husband Fitz, they supported so many wonderful cultural and civic initiatives in Philadelphia, including the Art Museum. She hosted elegant events in Philadelphia and Florida, and always invited Anne d'Harnoncourt and me to stay with her while visiting Florida. Her loyal friendship and home provided a warm and welcoming oasis in the midst of busy schedules - we had wide ranging conversations, relaxing afternoon swims in that fabulous pool and met her favorite artists at the local arts and crafts fairs. I will miss her as will so many others. I send my sincere condolences to her family.

I am sorry for your loss. I lived in Dixon House many yeas ago, on the Cabrini College campus. Many thanks to your parents for the happy times I had there.

I served on the Board of Trustees of Cabrini College with Edie. I had enormous respect for her wisdom, her kindness, and her spontaneous generosity. She was a woman to be both emulated and admired and I found her unforgettable even after we both moved on from the Board table in Radnor. I was blessed to have visited her at her lovely Palm Beach home in addition to the estate in Philadelphia. She left this world on the 55th anniversary of my graduation day from Cabrini College and the week of its final Commencement. To me, it feels like precious closure. Edith Dixon was an extraordinary woman. May she be surrounded in everlasting light.
